July 2019 Food Review!

Updated: Aug 29, 2019

We’ve got a special treat this month #Cravers! A Celebration is in order for the Beautiful, Miss Kita, who is now 28 years young!

Before we get things started, I wanted to say how wonderful it is to have her as one of my best friends.

She’s kind, selfless, talented, caring, inspiring, honest, strong, insanely creative, and absolutely gorgeous as hell! People like her don’t come around often and I’m so thankful for her. She’s been my joy, my motivation, my support system, my shopping partner, my twin goofball who laughs at stupid things with me, my wine buddy, my best friend. I love her to the moon and back and before she slowly transitioned back to vegetarianism, we decided we would treat ourselves to a lovely steak dinner at Iron Gate in Belmont. So without further ado, the Birthday girl herself, Kita! :]

Hello #Cravers, Kita here, looks like Ashley beat me to it with starting off July’s post. Thank you Ashley for the kind words! I was so happy to be able to celebrate my birthday with you and so lucky to have you in my life!

As Ashley mentioned, I am transitioning to vegetarianism, eventually vegan. Right now I am doing a pretty good job at leading a mostly plant based diet, I’d say maybe 90%. I am transitioning some of my daily products like yogurt and cheese into plant based options. I am having a harder time getting my hands on a plant based grated parmesan cheese (so if anyone knows where to buy it in the Bay Area, please let me know!). For July, I wanted to celebrate my birthday which is August 4th, and I wanted to end my meat eating life with a bang, thus steak!

We went to Iron Gate in Belmont, CA. It was such a lovely experience. We shared a bottle of prosecco and an appetizer of Melon & Proscuitto. We also each got a salad starter and of course steak. Iron Gate was pretty fancy, fancier than our usual monthly dinners, so it was a wonderful treat. This is the kind of place where you are treated like royalty and the hostess places your cloth napkin on your lap for you after you sit down! The prosecco was delicious as it always is (one of my favorites). The Melon & Proscuitto was a nice mix of sweet and refreshing with salty and fatty, a nice light start to the meal. My salad was pretty standard, romaine, croutons, tomatoes and cucumbers. After our salads, we were served a surprise palate cleanser of a sorbet, I believe it was raspberry, it was cold and refreshing. For steak, I ordered the Filet Mignon, I mean, go big or go home right? It came with a side of roasted veggies and potatoes. The steak was cooked to perfection and the veggie sides were so flavorful!

To finish our meal we each got a chocolate souffle! Oh my was this yummy! I wish I had a video of the serving experience, but alas this place was too classy to pull out my phone while the waiter carefully removed each souffle from its ramekin and placed it on a plate and poured chocolate syrup around it. Mine had a blue candle that I got to blow out and make a birthday wish, it was a nice touch and made me feel extra special. The souffle was warm and soft and had the perfect consistency for souffle. I would get this every time!

Overall this was a perfect way to celebrate my birthday and have one last hurrah for meat eating. I definitely recommend this place to anyone! They did have vegetarian entree options, so I’m looking forward to going back at some point. I want to thank Ashley again for treating me to this wonderful dinner and I can’t wait for her birthday later this year!

I definitely agree with Kita regarding the atmosphere of Iron Gate. It is refined, sophisticated and definitely had a more intimate setting which is what I love for these occasions. It makes the experience more personal and very relaxing. What I love the most about these settings is that it allows you to wind down and really enjoy your experience after a long day. The customer service was excellent as well!

Our waiter, Magdi, was as sweet as can be and very attentive! Everything was served and timed perfectly after each course. I ended up ordering the Cesar salad and New York Strip Steak topped with garlic butter and a side of micro veggies that were cooked to perfection. I was surprised by the refreshing raspberry sorbet as most restaurants do not offer a palate cleanser, so it was a nice transition before my steak arrived.

As full as I was by the end of dinner, I knew I couldn’t leave without a little dessert and the chocolate soufflé was just what I needed! Overall, I definitely enjoyed my experience and would love to revisit!

Stay tuned #Cravers and Join us in August for Pizza, yum!! We decided to go to a pizza place that recently followed us on Instagram, Midici’s! If your restaurant wants us to review them, give us a follow and we will add you to our list of upcoming restaurants! And as always #Cravers, please let us know, What are you craving??
